When Seats.aero is the right choice
We will not pretend Seats.aero is a weak product. It is excellent at what it does, and there are clear cases where it wins.
- 1. You search Aeroplan, Lufthansa, Delta, Air Canada, or American as your daily drivers. Seats.aero covers 26 programs to our 14, and three of those (Delta, AA, Aeroplan) are major US-issued cards' transfer partners. We are catching up but we are not there yet.
- 2. You want a Discord with thousands of award-search obsessives. The Pro Discord is a real differentiator if you like crowd-sourced sweet spots and route ideas.
- 3. You are building a third-party app on top of award data. Seats.aero's API has been around longer and is proven at scale. Ours works, but theirs has the track record.
When Award Travel Finder is the right choice
-
1. You use Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or any MCP-compatible AI.
This is our biggest unlock. Install the
award-travel-finderplugin from the Claude Code marketplace and ask Claude things like "what is the cheapest way to fly LHR to NRT in business in October" — Claude calls oursearch_availabilityandget_pricingtools and answers with a real table. No other award search tool exposes itself to AI agents this way. - 2. You want real-time search, not cached data. Seats.aero's free tier is cached and capped at 60 days out. Our search hits airline APIs (or our scraper service) live for 19 airlines, including direct calendar APIs for British Airways, Cathay, Iberia, Qantas, and Virgin Atlantic.
- 3. You want hybrid cash + points and hotel awards in one tool. Seats.aero is flights-only. We added hybrid search, hotel award availability, and a status match finder because award travel is more than just flight seats.
- 4. You do not want to pay $100 a year to find out a route is empty. Our free tier covers the whole 365-day search window, not just the next 60 days, so price is not a barrier to research a trip nine months out.
Pricing compared
| Feature | Award Travel Finder | Seats.aero |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 economy searches/day with free account, full 365-day window, all 19 airlines | Unlimited, 60-day window |
| Paid monthly | $9.99/mo (150 searches) | $9.99/mo |
| Paid annual | $49.99/yr (150 searches/mo) | $99.99/yr |
| Cost over 1 year (paid) | $49.99 | $99.99 |
If you only book one or two award trips a year, the free tier (5 economy searches/day) covers you for $0. If you run a lot of comparisons, $49.99/yr with us is half the cost of Seats.aero Pro at $99.99/yr — and we cover 150 searches a month either way. If you live in award search and want their Discord plus cached data across 26 programs, the $100 is a fair price for a serious tool.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Award Travel Finder really free?
- Yes. Make a free account at awardtravelfinder.com and you get 5 economy searches per day across all 19 airlines and 14 programs, with the full 365-day window. Need more? $9.99/mo gets you 150 searches; that's still about half of Seats.aero Pro at $9.99/mo if you want a strict head-to-head.
- Is Seats.aero better than Award Travel Finder?
- For breadth of programs (26 vs 14) and an established Pro Discord, yes. For real-time searches, hybrid cash + points, hotel awards, and AI integration via Claude, we are ahead. They are different tools with different strengths.
- Does Award Travel Finder cover Aeroplan, Delta, and American?
- We currently cover Aeroplan and several major partners through our 14 programs. We are actively adding airlines — Qantas was added in March 2026. Delta and American are bot-protected (PerimeterX) and remain a known gap. Seats.aero has them.
- What is the Claude Code plugin and why does it matter?
-
Award Travel Finder publishes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at
mcp.awardtravelfinder.com. You install our plugin in Claude Code or Claude Desktop and Claude can search awards, compare programs, and price flights inside any conversation. Seats.aero does not offer this. If you already use Claude for travel research, this changes how you plan trips.
